Relay for Life

Hey guys!

Diane Tran of MMHS ARC has created a relay team of ARC Youth to participate in the Relay for Life of 2012! Basically, instead of volunteering at this run as we would normally do we are getting even more hands-on (so to speak) and actually running in the event to help the cause!

To all you athletic ARC'ers, this is the perfect chance to use your skills to have fun and do good at the same time.

The event will be taking place on May 19, 2012 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM. Check out our team's page for more details: click here!

When registering, make sure you select the choice that says "MY TEAM CAPTAIN PAYS" so you don't have to spend money to do good, because that would make no sense. First email tpredcross@gmail.com so we know that you are signing up.

There will be a chance to socialize with your fellow ARC'ers (TPHS as well as other schools') at a Kickoff BBQ being hosted by MMHS ARC on January 7, 2012 from 12:00PM to 2:00PM. All food will be free, so take this time to enjoy delicious food while having fun with other of our chapter's clubs' members.

Email with questions of course, and let us know if you are interested in participating! (:

Big Bay Balloon Parade

Hey guys,

I've posted a live stream from the Big Bay Balloon Parade to start off a random and fun thing I thought of, which is live broadcasting from occasionally more-fun-than-normal events (not saying that other events aren't as fun). Basically, since this is a big parade that will be shown on TV [Channel 4 San Diego] more than once here locally as well as nationally, I wanted to give TPHS ARC'ers a first look and a sort of "behind-the-scenes" feature.

In the future if we ever attend more bigger-than-us events like this one, we will be streaming those videos as well (unless it isn't allowed or something)!

Without further ado, here is the Big Bay Balloon Parade live stream:

*event begins at 8:00AM, but the broadcast might begin a little earlier to show our journey on the trolley and costume set-up and such

Thanks for tuning in! TPHS ARC pride. (:

 x, Kath.

[if the embedded live stream on the website isn't working, CLICK HERE instead to watch it]

ALSO-- the broadcast will not necessarily be present at certain times or at all depending on the choices of the people to appear within it.

*check-in + chat to leave us comments, and we may answer your questions or listen to your requests as we broadcast live

Club Meeting: 12/8/11

Here is an outline of today's meeting based off the presentation!

AMERICAN RED CROSS CLUB (12/8/11)
Club meetings are every other Thursday in Room 24 during lunch.

Announcements~

-We have moved from our former Facebook group to a Facebook page! You can "like" us for quick and easy updates and announcements for the club. See the top right-hand corner of the website.

-Our club has an official club phone number you can call (voicemail only), so if you just need to leave us a message with an inquiry about the club, feel free to call and leave your name and number so we can get back to you! Call (858) 848-7733 with your phone, or use the built-in feature in the bottom right hand corner of our website.

-We have a Red Cross Club TV page! Check out the sidebar to find it; we stream from certain events live so you can get in on the fun even if you aren't there personally. (:

-Make sure that if you haven't already, fill out the TPHS ARC membership application. You are not considered an official active member of the club if we do not have your submitted form on file. <click here to fill it out.> Your volunteer hours are posted online on the extended website (see "More"), and so is the Club Policy stating your requirements. *A few of the people previously on our active members list have been moved to the category of non-active member due to not adhering to our club policy.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

- Blood Drive Shifts
  • Volunteers work at the check-in/registration table and interact with the blood donors
  • Send hours of availability to tpredcross@gmail.com to start the registration process as a volunteer at one of the upcoming blood drives
- Fall Red Cross Project - Holiday Mail for Heroes
  • We're finishing PHASE II -- the card-making stage.
  • Our next stage is card-sorting, which includes a special event at our chapter's HQ. If you would like to attend, reserve a spot by emailing us!
- Partnership with TP Relief Team -- fundraising for the UNICEF Tap Project. (:
  • The TP Relief Team raised over $2,600 for the UNICEF Tap Project!
  • Thank you to the volunteers that helped out at the bake sale itself, as well as the donations of baked goods.
- See's Candy Fundraiser
  • The winners of our mini competition are Christina Luu, Megha Sanjiv, Angie Lin, and Alex Deng. You will be getting your prizes sometime next week.
  • We raised around $300 for TPHS ARC by selling around $1075.00 worth of candy; great work guys!
- Red Cross Club Shirts/Hoodies
  • Red Cross hoodies are designed by Mira Mesa High School's Marauders Red Cross, and are $25.00 each.
  • We also have our own personal club t-shirt design, so check that out and express your interest. If enough people want shirts, we'll definitely put in orders for them.
  • Visit the extended website to find the club presentation for this meeting, so that you can find both of these designs.
- TPHS Canned Food Drive
  • Your 3rd period may already be participating in this, but if not, bring in your donations to us! It is a great cause to help out families barely getting by without any food, so spread your holiday spirit by donating food items to them.
- More fundarisers?!
  • If you have any fun ideas for fundraisers, definitely let us know! We're not looking to repeat our Winter fundraiser, but if you or anyone you know will be planning on buying chocolates for Valentine's Day, we do have a special catalog you can order from (prices are the same as they would be if you were to buy from See's yourself anyway) that will donate a percentage to our club.
