Winter Fundraiser Report

Dear All Red Crossers,
I'm very sorry to inform you that the See's Candies Fundraiser did not achieve its sale minimum quota, and so we will not be able to place the order this year.  Please try hard next fundraiser to sell your chocolates!! The money should have been returned last club meeting to you.  If you did not receive the money you put in for the fundraiser back, please contact either me, Rebecca Chen, the secretary, Jessica Yang, or the treasurer, Alex Deng, using emails from the Board Members page.
However, I wish you all a wonderful winter break.  Get lots of rest and spend a lot of time having fun!
  Sincerely,
     Rebecca Chen

Dear TP ARC members!

Just click this link and it should lead you to a pdf file of the Flyer and Orders Page for See's Candies. Happy Selling, and remember-2 orders minimum by December 5th~ :] That equals 1 hour of volunteerism to help out Typhoon Victims! ^^
Or, if you don't feel like printing and want the nice glossy paper flyer that we have, remember to come outside of Room 24 on Tuesday 11/19 at lunch!

Update!

 Dear All,

First off, I apologize for the haphazard meeting this last Thursday.  Unfortunately, there was an unprecedented large number of people still testing from Olson's AP Bio class and we could not use Room 24, and were instead given Room 23.

The devastation of Typhoon Haiyan has been terrible, and to help out the American Red Cross, who is actively helping out the victims of this natural disaster, we've recently put together the See's Candies Fundraiser and will be giving the proceeds of this fundraiser to Red Cross Headquarters to continue their work in the Philippines. The Fundraiser will end (aka, the orders are due by-)December 5th (the next club meeting date) so that we can have all of our chocolate/candies/goodies by the next week, right before winter break :D Try to sell lots during Thanksgiving Break!

Please come outside room 24 (the tables outside of the room) on Tuesday during lunch to quickly pick up the forms(which have lists of the various See's Candies we will be selling) and the envelopes in which to collect the money.

For each order you sell, you will earn 30 minutes of volunteerism hours. Try your best to sell at least 2 orders to help out the American Red Cross and Typhoon Haiyan Victims!

ALSO Bring in any sturdy boxes on Tuesday as well!  ie) a cardboard box should be fine. (not a tiny one please, we're going to try to fit in canned foods, school supplies, and gently used clothes). You'll get 30 min volunteering hours/2 boxes.  These boxes will be used to collect items from around school, put in classrooms for students school-wide to donate into. :]

Thank you all for being such great volunteers and people ^___^

  Sincerely,
    Rebecca Chen

Goodbye 2012-2013!

Hi guys. :] Since it's the last day of school, I just wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS for surviving another (or possibly your first) year of high school. <3 For me, it has been my last.

Because I was lucky enough to serve on the TPHS ARC board for the past two school years as president, a position I am sad to leave behind (but proud to pass on now), I did not want to let the day go by without saying that just by being a member of this club you became a huge and happy part of my life. I sincerely hope that you will all continue your love of and dedication to community service wherever you are going next, whether it is college (like me) or the next year in your high school career. And more importantly, that you won't be too shy to grab hold of opportunities to make yourselves more integral parts of your communities and making even more of a mark in the world as individuals.

I don't want this to be too long -- for fear of you guys just skimming past my words -- so I will end now with this: GOOD LUCK to next year's TPHS ARC board (and all the hopefully very dedicated individuals that will become board members in the years afterward), and HAVE A GREAT SUMMER and many years and summers to come. Hope to come across you guys in the future. <3

Stay in touch!

TL;DR -- I LOVE YOU GUYS.

Hey everyone,

First of all I would like to say that I appreciate you all for being such great members during my term as president of the Torrey Pines High School American Red Cross Club. For those of you whose high school careers are not ending just yet (as mine is very soon), I sincerely hope that you are as in love with the club and the cause as I have been, am, and always will be. Please continue your participation in TPHS ARC and its events, and support your new board members with dedication and sincerity.

Without further ado, here are your new TPHS ARC officers for the upcoming school year! Feel free to send them words of congratulations on their new roles in our high school club and in our entire community as a whole.

Ways to get to your 30 hour requirement before the 2012-2013 school year ends!

Hey guys,

For those of you still trying to get those last few hours before the school year ends, here are some suggestions (and opportunities) to do so!

Besides the April community volunteering events, the following are a few ways to earn some spare hours with minimal effort on your part. ;)

1. Submit an "Event Review" detailing a past event you attended with our club. Each submitted review is worth one hour. CLICK HERE to access the form.
2. Submit photos that you took at a past event you attended with our club. Each submitted batch of photos is worth one hour. Email these photos to tpredcross@gmail.com, our club email.
3. Donate books to our book drive. The more you donate, the more hours you will receive. There is no limit to the amount of hours you can earn from donating books! Email to set up a turn-in appointment time.
4. Find and attend an event on your own. Generally there is a registration booth where you can pick up an hours confirmation letter to prove you worked for a specific amount of time. You can then turn in this form, or email it in, to get those hours into your TPHS ARC hours count. (Limit: ten hours earned using this method.)

Also, there will still be some club activities you can participate in to earn some final hours.

1. We will be holding a community-wide fundraiser with the other Red Cross clubs in our chapter from May to June, which will require volunteers to perform various tasks (ex: print flyers, distribute flyers, promote the event, etc.).
2. Send in a video to be included in a Red Cross promotion by WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17, 2013. Video should be short, with you answering the following questions: (1) Why do you volunteer with the Red Cross? and (2) What keeps you coming back? Send the video to tpredcross@gmail.com, our club email.

Feel free to email and ask for any other methods you can use to earn your final hours before our school year concludes. Thank you for your participation and dedication to TPHS ARC and the American Red Cross in general.

Annual Big Bake Sale Partnership!

Hey everyone!

For those of you who were club members last year, you probably remember the big sale that is being hosted annually by the biggest humanitarian clubs on campus (Key Club, NHS, CSF, UNICEF, etc.) to raise money for a common cause.

This year's cause is the Pediatric Trauma Program, which uses its funds for the development and donation of emergency and medical equipment for babies and young children -- a worthy cause indeed!

So, here's how you can help:

  • Donate baked goods on February 22, 2013 to Mr. Chess' room (#63)
    • Donations:
      • should be packaged appropriately
      • include your name and "TPHS ARC"
      • should be, preferably, home-made baked goods
      • baked goods should not contain nuts for health/allergy reasons
      • include a list of the ingredients
  • Volunteer at a bake sale booth on Saturday February 23, 2013!
    • Our club's booth is in front of the Highland's Jimbo's store, and shift times are [1] 9:30AM-2:00PM and [2] 2:00PM-6:30PM
      • It is possible to volunteer at your own interval, but you must include this special volunteer request in your email
      • There is a limit to the number of volunteers we can place at a booth at any given time (to prevent overcrowding), so make sure to sign up ASAP if you know you want to help out for sure
    • If you would rather volunteer at a different location (you'd be with another's club's volunteers) that is completely fine as well -- alternate locations include:
      • Torrey Hills' Vons (UNICEF and Visions)
      • Tapioca Express (CSF and NHS)
      • Rancho Santa Fe's Village Market (Key Club)

And, because this is a giant partnership with a ton of clubs on campus, participating in this bake sale can earn you club credit with any/all of the clubs involved. :) We raised more than $2,000 last year for the UNICEF Tap Project, and hopefully we'll be able to make the same big impact with the Pediatric Trauma Program this year -- with your help!

**Email tpredcross@gmail.com with questions, or if you want to sign up for a bake sale booth shift. :)**

See's Candies Spring Fundraiser

Hey guys!

Our spring fundraiser will include pre-selling orders of See's Candies' chocolates, etc. that are Easter themed. You can find the pre-sale flyer by clicking HERE. ALL CLUB MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO SELL AT LEAST TWO ORDERS -- if you genuinely try your hardest and still do not succeed, just consult the TPHS ARC board.
  • Just like last year, really great prizes will be given to the top sellers. Those of you who won these cool prizes last year know that I'm not kidding! ;)
  • Orders will be collected at the Feb. 28, 2013 meeting at the latest.
Don't be shy -- email tpredcross@gmail.com with any questions or problems.
